Before Booking
If you’re considering a permanent makeup procedure, it’s important to understand that the results depend largely on the health and condition of your skin. Outcomes will vary from person to person. If you have a pre-existing skin condition, medical condition, or take certain medications, you may still be a candidate but should adjust your expectations accordingly. Each individual responds differently to the procedure. If your skin is healthy and in good condition, you’re ready to book. If you’re unsure, feel free to email us for further guidance.
Pre-Existing Skin Conditions
Certain skin conditions can affect your eligibility or results:
-
Eczema, Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Chronic Acne, Rosacea: Active conditions in the treatment area may disqualify you from receiving treatment. Notify your artist of any concerns.
-
Sunburn: Wait until your skin has fully healed and returned to its normal tone before booking.
-
Previous Permanent Makeup: Clients with prior work may require correction or removal before starting a new procedure. Not all cases are eligible. Submit clear photos of each brow or prior to booking.
-
Scars: Existing scar tissue in the treatment area may impact retention and healed results.
-
Deep Wrinkles: Hair strokes can appear uneven.
-
Moles, Skin Tags, Bumps, or Piercings: These areas may retain pigment poorly and may not suitable for treatment.
Skin and Medications
-
Oily Skin: Excessively oily skin may result in poor retention and blurred hair strokes. Ombre is a preferred option for such skin types.
-
Accutane, Retin-A, and Retinol: Wait one year after using Accutane and discontinue Retinol or Vitamin A 1 week prior to your appointment.
Pre-Existing Medical Conditions
Certain medical conditions may limit your eligibility. Consult your artist before booking, and a physician’s consent may be required in some cases:
-
Pregnancy or nursing
-
Tendency to form keloid scars
-
Hair transplant in the service area
-
Bleeding disorders (e.g., hemophilia)
-
Autoimmune disorders (e.g., lupus)
-
Diabetes
-
Heart conditions
-
Use of blood thinners
-
IUD (may increase bleeding; inform your artist)
How Long Does It Last?
-
Permanent makeup fades over time. Regular touch-ups or annual refreshers are recommended to maintain shape and color.
Discomfort During the Procedure
-
Discomfort is minimal for most clients. While no anesthetic is used during the first pass to avoid distortion, a topical anesthetic is applied for the second pass to ensure comfort.
Results Vary – No Guarantees
-
Permanent makeup results are highly individual and depend on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, age, and aftercare.
-
Oily Skin: May require more frequent touch-ups.
-
Mature Skin: Fine and delicate, mature skin may heal less predictably.
-
Darker Skin: Results may appear less detailed and more solid.
Fresh vs. Healed
-
Initial hair strokes will appear crisp and dark, softening as they heal.
Retention and Touch-Ups
-
A third appointment may occasionally be necessary for areas with poor retention.
-
Color boost sessions are advised every 1.5–3.5 years, depending on skin type and aftercare, to maintain vibrancy and shape.
Final Notes
-
Cosmetic tattoos are low-maintenance, not no-maintenance. While they enhance your natural beauty, additional makeup may still be needed for specific looks.
